Let's geaux to Mexico: Art, Culture, and Design Exploration!
Spend 10 days immersed in the rich art, culture, and history of Mexico City with two LSU faculty members. Professor of Art, Denyce Celentano, and Bruce Sharky, Professor of Landscape Architecture, are joining forces to create an extraordinary experience for Art + Design students and students of other colleges. This field study course will provide students the chance to see some of the world’s outstanding museums, experience cultural sites including the famed pyramids of Teotihuacan and public markets, visiting architecture sites by Luis Barragan and others, and the opportunity of walking the streets of historical districts with time to sketch and take in the colorful street life of Mexico City.
10-days of spring intersession is the perfect length of time to introduce students to the art, culture, history, and urban life in Mexico City. The cost has been made very affordable, based on what Professor Sharky has learned after many years of field studies in Mexico City with students. Students of all levels (undergraduate or graduate) may enroll in the course. Review the attached flyer and decide which course you wish to sign up for. They will be taught concurrently by both professors.
Special note on safety. As recently as August 2017, Professor Sharky has led several similar trips to Mexico City. He does so after a review by LSU's travel oversight committee. Our groups stay at a family run hotel preferred by the British Embassy. Professor Sharky is fluent in Spanish and is a well-seasoned traveler. He welcomes any discussion regarding course content, trip details, and safety concerns.

Program Fee Includes
- Housing in Mexico City
- All breakfasts and a few other meals
- Airfare from Baton Rouge to Mexico City, Mexico
- Ground transportation
- Fieldtrips and cultural events
- Health insurance
Housing: Students will stay in a hotel which has hosted LSU groups in the past
Meals: Breakfast will be provided at the hotel each morning and there will be two group meals. Other meals will be on the students own.
Program Fee Does NOT Include
Tuition and Fees: You must pay tuition and fees for all courses you take through LSU. The tuition you pay is based on whether or not you are a resident of Louisiana. If you are an out of state student, you will pay out of state tuition and fees for all courses taken through LSU.
Spending money: Although some meals are provided, you should plan for additional expenditures, including meals not covered by the program fee, snacks, souvenirs, and outings with friends.
Studio Supplies: Students will need to have drawing/watercolor supplies for their respective courses. More specific lists will be provided later and please check with Mr. Sharky or Ms. Celentano before making purchases for your supplies. General list" Sketchbook, tracing paper, pencils, eraser, travel watercolor set, watercolor round brushes, water container, glue/tape, scissors, and day bag for supplies.

Art 4020 can accommodate artists looking to find a new perspective and skills. Artists can be beginners or advanced, the course will be tailored for your ability. All LSU students are invited to participate in this course.
LA 4503 will be an introduction to cross-cultural design issues for Landscape Architects.Appreciation of the local culture is an important part of the Landscape Architecture design process. Students will focus on the balance between art, culture, and place as it relates to the built urban environment.

Eligibility & Withdrawal
In order to be eligible for the program, you must:
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 (undergraduate) or 3.0 (graduate students).
- Completed at least 30 credit hours
- Be at least 18 years old by the first day of the program
- Not be on disciplinary or scholastic probation
NOTE: This program is open to students from all disciplines. Qualified applications from other insitutions are also welcome.

Although the application deadline is March 23, you are advised to register early in order to secure a spot in the program. The program will fill on a first come, first served basis from those who meet the eligibility requirements.
Deposit: A $500 deposit will be placed on your LSU billing statement at the time that you apply to the program. Students at other universities must send in a check or money order (made payable to "Louisiana State University") for the $500 deposit along with their applications.
The $500 deposit is nonrefundable after February 2, 2018.
Payment Deadlines: the $500 deposit is put on your billing statement when you are accepted into the program and is due at the time that the charge appears. The rest of the program fee (minus the $500 deposit) and tuition/fees for the courses will appear on your summer fee bill. Those fee bills are available via myLSU in early May and are due in late May (specific dates TBD by the Registrar).
If you withdraw from the program: After February 2, you will be responsible for making payments on your study abroad program, even if you do not go on the program. The amount that you will owe is based on the date on which you withdraw. The withdrawal schedule is:
