Mississippi State University is located in Starkville, a university town of 25,000 located in Northeast MS. Air transportation is available at the Golden Triange Regional Airport (GTR) located fifteen miles from campus. The over 2000-acre campus, the Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge, and the nearby Tennessee-Tombigbee waterway provide unlimited opportunities for recreation. The Sanderson Recreation center, with over 146,000 square feet, offers students the finest recreational facility in the state. MSU was founded in 1878 and is the largest university in the state and is the only institution in Miss. designated as a Doctoral I university by the Southern Regional Education Board. As a land grant university, MSU offers a large variety of undergraduate programs in the Colleges of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Architecture, Art and Design, Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Engineering, Forest Resources, and Veterinary Medicine. MSU offers 81 undergraduate degree programs.
