Founded in 1952 as a teacher training college, UOG is a land-grant and sea-grant institution and is the major institution of higher education in the Western Pacific. At UOG, students and faculty work and learn in a multicultural atmosphere. UOG's 3600 students come from Guam, the U.S. Mainland, Micronesia, and 35 foreign countries. The UOG Marine Laboratory has become a world-class research and teaching facility specializing in tropical marine biology. To all we offer the hospitality, helpfulness, and warm "hafa adai" (hello) spirit for which our Island is famous.
Because Guam is located in the tropical zone, the climate is pleasant with an average temperature of 82 degrees. Its population of 155,000 enjoys the sun, clean air, beautiful sunsets, and miles of quiet sandy beaches. Recreational activities include hiking, boonie stomping, golfing, snorkeling, swimming, scuba diving, surfing, jet skiing, and wind surfing.
The island's time zone is 15 hours ahead of that of the East Coast.
