Because of its natural beauty & its abundant bounty, the Southeastern Alaskan city of Juneau has been the home to Native American fisherman, European fur traders, & American gold prospectors. Now a free-spirited state capital, Juneau is the perfect base for a journey into the gorgeous Alaskan wilderness. UAS is ideally located on the shores of Auke Lake within a mile of the Mendenhall Glacier & the Tongass National Forest, & in the opposite direction the coastline of the Pacific's Inside Passage. Students at UAS have the advantage of a spectacular environmental laboratory, a rich native culture, & an intimate learning community. Recreational activities include hiking, camping, boating, fishing, snowboarding, skiing, ice skating & hockey, rock & ice climbing, glacier travel & more. Academics are personable & purposeful with low faculty to student ratios & strong intercultural connections. As John Muir stated, "everything else pales in comparison (to Alaska)."
The state capital, Juneau, is located in the panhandle of Alaska in a temperate rainforest environment. The town is surrounded by water, ice, & mountains, limiting transportation to and from the city
If you are looking for excellent academics and a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) is the place for you!
